Panasonic NiMH in Drumlines

Australia has the highest number of fatal shark attacks in the world.

For this reason, the NSW government responded by investing AUD 16 million to protect people against shark attacks in August 2015. Part of that strategy includes SMART drumlines. This technology differs greatly from traditional drumlines in that it provides a real-time alert when a shark is caught. The detected sharks can then be marked with direction-finding tags and released alive.

Marine Instruments developed a GPS buoy that is being used in the SMART drumlines system. Panasonic batteries in each GPS buoy ensure that the solution is reliable and has a long life.
