Sunswift World Record!

Master Instruments is proud to say that our partner, UNSW's Sunswift Racing project, has achieved their goal of breaking a world record - the fastest EV over 1000km on a single charge.

The Sunswift 7 was designed and built by top UNSW students over the period of 18 months, with the battery and key engineering support provided by our expert team at Master Instruments.

The car completed some 240 laps of the AARC circuit in Victoria on the weekend, averaging 84km/hr over a time of 11 hours 52 minutes and 8 seconds. The Guinness World Record was approved several days later after timing data was analysed and confirmed.

The world record attempt was unfortunately not problem free with a tyre puncture and BMS error resulting in precious minutes lost, in addition to several required driver changes, however the team were still able to claim the record.

"This team have focused on ultimate efficiency in order to break this world record. They have shown what is ultimately achievable if you concentrate on aerodynamics, and rolling resistance and the use of smart materials...
During this record, the energy consumption was just 3.8 kWh/100km, whereas even the most efficient EVs on the road today only achieve a rating of 15kWh/100km and the average is around 20kWh/100km

- Prof. Richard Hopkins, Sunswift team principal

Everyone at Master Instruments is extremely proud to be a part of the achievement and is looking forward to what challenges and further improvements may lay ahead.
